How do I record to MiniDisc?

Question : How do I record to MiniDisc?

I have just come across a problem that I’m hoping you can help me with. I like my music and have quite a few CDs. What I decide to listen to determines whether I play the CD through my PC or mini hi-fi system. I have just been given a Minidisc player/recorder that I would like to try out, but my mini hi-fi does not have any output sockets, other than the standard 3.5mm headphone socket. Is it possible to use this headphone socket to connect to the Minidisc player for recording to disc?

Solution : How do I record to MiniDisc?

You didn’t tell us the make and model of your Minidisc device, but you said it is both a player and recorder, so this should be possible. As your hi-fi lacks a line-out socket, you’ll need to connect a cable from the 3.5mm headphone socket to the Minidisc’s line-in or mic socket. Then, just hit the record button on the Minidisc device, and the play button on your hi-fi. This should work, but the recordings may contain unwanted ‘noise’. To combat this, experiment with the output (hi-fi) volume level, starting low and working upwards.
