gm-notify (or Gmail Notifier) is an Ubuntu app-indicator which provides bubble message alerts and shows unread email count for your Gmail account. It uses Canonical’s Notify-OSD and for this reason provides semi-transparent and unobtrusive click-through bubble message notifications from the system tray.
Ubuntu 10.10 Oneiric Ocelot, 11.04 and possibly 11.10 users can install gm-notify from the Ubuntu Software Center, by downloading the Launchpad package or from the following Terminal command.
sudo apt-get install gm-notify
gm-notify will not run on very old Ubuntu systems, but Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04) users can install gm-notify from the below Terminal command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gm-notify-maintainers/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gm-notify
After installation, launch gm-notify and login with your Gmail I.D. and password or use the default mail client.
gm-notify will integrate with the system tray and provide unread Gmail notifications and display bubble messages for unread emails.
Notifications for new emails will be displayed as click-through bubble messages.
