gMaps Browser is a free app for iOS which brings Google Maps with Street View and weather updates to help users find a viable alternative to the dysfunctional Apple Maps in iOS 6. There has always been good map apps in the Apple Store however it appears that since Apple Maps have changed the location of many places on the world map, people have been searching for viable alternatives. While there are also other services that one can opt for (e.g. Bing), however an app that supports Google Maps cannot be ignored.
gMaps Browser for iOS 6 has been a welcome sign for people looking to acquire better map functionality on their iOS devices. This app supports Satellite, Road and Terrain Maps, as well as Street View, Public Transit, Traffic Reports and Weather Forecasts (with live cloud view). With the help of the gMaps Browser you can easily find desired places using your iPhone or iPad device, within a clean interface that comes with a few extra features such as additional map layers and Geo tagged images.
The gMaps Browser has an easy to use menu with no complex features to hinder navigation. The options menu in the app comes divided in two primary parts, namely the Maptypes and Layers. At the bottom, you’ll find a button to navigate to your current location.
From Map Types you can view maps like the stock iOS 5 Maps app, with an additional ‘Terrain’ view functionality. You can also switch between Maptypes including the Standard View, Satellite View, Terrain View and Hybrid View.
As mentioned earlier, the gMaps Browser also supports Street View. This option is available via an icon on the top-left corner of the map. The icon turn yellow when Street View is available.
You can simultaneously turn on several layers, regardless of the map that you are using. The layers section allows users to highlight all the roads suitable for vehicles, routes of busses and commuter trains, the temperature of a city, current weather conditions and more.
Unfortunately, this app isn’t the best for voice directions, route planning or turn-by-turn navigation. Nonetheless, the app provides a clean interface, is available for free and offers some extra features which make the app worthy enough for use. gMaps Browser requires iOS 6 or later and is compatible with
