- On April 1, 2011, the device was released in Ireland, UK, Ireland and Spain.
- On April 28, 2011, Xperia Play was launched in Canada.
- In Indonesia, the device was launched on XL Axiatta network on July 29, 2011.
- On September 8, 2011 Sony Ericsson confirmed that the Xperia Play, and all other Xperia phones shall receive an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, aka ICS.
