Perform Network Throughput Test On Wired And Wireless Networks

Network throughput is a measure taken as the average rate of successful message delivery over a channel of communication. Such data may be transferred over a link, or may pass through a certain network node and is usually measured in bits per or data packets per second,as well as data packets per time slot.

TamoSoft Throughput Test is a software designed to perform this test. It runs as a client – server model and requires two machines for performing the test. You may use virtual machine(s) but in my personal opinion, the obtained result from a virtual machine may not be very reliable. To use this software, you will have to make a server on one computer and run the client on the other. Below is the explanation of the simple steps required to do this.

To get started, launch the server on one machine and the Client on the other. Both are installed by default with the application. The client connects to the server and sends TCP and UDP data streams while computing important metrics, these include the upstream and downstream throughput values, packet loss, as well as round-trip time.

The Server configuration requires merely selecting an IP version (both IPv4 and IPv6 are supported) and entering the IP of the Server machine.  Click Connect to make the server active.

To perform the test, launch the Client on a separate machine and enter the server IP. Click Apply to start the test.

The test will begin immediately and a 3D chart will display real time results. The Thoroughput option shows the throughput test results.

While, the  Loss option shows UDP upstream and downstream. All data is available in chart form and also visible in numerical form above each chart.

RTT option shows the round-trip time in milliseconds.
