Edit, Split, Merge And Preview Subtitles In VLC Player With Gaupol

Gaupol is a free subtitle editing tool for Windows and Linux which allows editing text-based subtitle files. It provides means of creating subtitles, editing texts and timing subtitles to match video duration. The user interface is designed to provide batch processing capability with tab support. Gaupol is meant to help users edit every single line with the convenience for translating existing subtitles. The edited subs can also be previewed in a user selected media player. It auto detected the path of my installed VLC Player, after which I was able to preview any edited line of the subtitle by simply using the Play button. You can also specify other media players which may have VLC like capabilities such as MPlayer.

Gaupol supports all commonly used subtitle formats which include the following:

  • SubRip (SRT)
  • SubViewer 2.0
  • MicroDVD
  • MPL2
  • MPsub
  • TMPlayer

Gaupol also partially supports some other formats which include Sub Station Alpha and Advanced Sub Station Alpha. Just add a subtitle file from Open main files button to load it for editing. As you can see from the below screenshot, you can edit subtitles lines and set their duration by simply double clicking on an area of the loaded subtitle file.
