The Windows Search service terminated with service-specific error 2147749155 (0x80040D23)

Question : The Windows Search service terminated with service-specific error 2147749155 (0x80040D23)

I can’t get the windows search service to start.  The error in the event log is:
The Windows Search service terminated with service-specific error 2147749155 (0x80040D23)

All the references I’m finding on how to fix this are for Vista, but this is on an XP machine.  I’ve tried to translate some of the vista instructions without success:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/85803-index-windows-search-service.html
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/windowsdesktopsearchhelp/thread/6e131594-6f72-4708-a9ac-fc95e89299fd/

to give two examples.

This was occurring with WDS 3.01, which had a “mangled” installation which took a while to clean up enough to get WDS4 installed, but the same behavior continued.  What finally worked to uninstall the existing 3.01 was copying:
C:WINDOWS$NtUninstallKB917013$spuninst
from another machine (it was missing) and running the uninstaller.

Solution: The Windows Search service terminated with service-specific error 2147749155 (0x80040D23)

lacheur42–Two more references but it does not seem a definitive fix was found.  Maybe you will be luckier here :
