telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Question : telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Netbackup service is installed on all servers,

Master server is solaris
Media server is Solaris
Clinet is Windows NT

backup is failing .. with error 57 (Client connection refused)
I found..

bash-2.03# telnet bpcd
Trying 1x.xx.xx.xx….
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

I checked host file.. server list.. bpcd configuration… so not sure.. what to do.. now..

even twice we have restarted netbackup service on client..

Solution: telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

My first suggestion would be to check the host where you’re telneting to.  If the client connection is being refused that means it’s finding the server, but the server doesn’t want it in for some reason.  Check firewall rules and try telneting right from host server.  If that works also try telneting from media server.  Lastly check ports used just to make sure everything is good.

If you aren’t familiar ethereal is a free network packet tracer that can sometimes help analyze the problems.   Recommend you give that a shot as well.
