Question : tnsping not recognized error
I have oracle 9i client installed on my windows 2000 server. I am trying to establish a data transfer from sql server to oracle server on another machine. So I modified the tnsnames.ora file by adding the sql server database information. I tried run a connection test from the windows command prompt and I got an error ‘tnsping’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Could someone tell me what I did wrong and how to fix it?
Solution: tnsping not recognized error
First, it sounds like the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory is not part of your PATH so you should add that. That will at least let your command find tnsping. However, it sounds like you are trying to connect via the 9i client to SQL Server. Is that the case? I don’t belive that is going to work. You can connect to SQL Server via the Oracle Transparent Gateway for SQL Server, but you are going to have to be connected to an Oracle database for that to work.
oracle client -> connect to Oracle database -> (transparent gateway) -> Connect to SQL Server…
