What are the Best New Games in 2022

Top Sellers

Okay, there are going to be differing opinions on this. Obviously, sales don’t define a game’s playability or contribution to a given genre. Box officer receipts on popcorn blockbusters don’t indicate arthouse excellence. That said, the following three games are on the top-selling list of 2022, and are among the ten most popular entries on said list.

1. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Disney Star Wars content is not loved. They took the Intellectual Property (IP) and tried to do two things: inject political ideology, and conform the IP to match female preferences, as a good swathe of Disney’s audience is young girls. Neither of these approaches resonates with the Star Wars universe. LEGO understands that and pokes fun (albeit politely) at obvious shenanigans.

What really sets this game apart, though, likely propelling it into its “top ten” status for 2022, is the fact that you can play in all nine “canon” films (yes, Disney believes what it produced is canon; we know better as fans, but that’s the thinking behind this game). So you can get into the nitty-gritty of the Star Wars universe—but with LEGOs. The game builds on previous LEGO outings into the same territory.

Easter eggs abound, and you’ll want to play around with hacking options. Even though this game is new, you’ll likely find cheat options through Guided Hacking’s Source Codes. These codes tend to be discovered very quickly after a game’s release. In fact, sometimes coding cheats, hacks, mods, and the like are available before a given game even hits the market.

2. Gran Turismo 7

Metacritic gives GT:7 an 87 out of 100, and it’s listed in the top ten best-selling games of 2022. If you’re unfamiliar with this franchise, it’s been around since the nineties. GT:1 and GT:2 on the original PSX were groundbreaking games as regards realism. Think of an RPG, but with race cars, and as photo-realistic as 90s tech would allow.

Over the years, the same basic formula has been continuously honed and refined, to the point that GT:7 feels like, perhaps, the most in-depth, accurate, immersive racing simulator you’ve ever experienced.

Even the way vehicles handle, interact with their environment, and can be modified lean into realism. Any racing fanatic loves the Gran Turismo series, and 7 does not disappoint.

3. Horizon II: Forbidden West

IGN gives Horizon II: Forbidden West a 9/10 rating. Follow the link for the review. This is a successful sequel in the best sense. It overcomes the shortcomings of the previous outing in this gaming universe and adds all new things as well. Mechanics in the game have been honed, characters are developed, and stories involving playable avatars truly engage players.

There’s a reason this game is on the top ten list. Also, don’t be confused by the title if you’re new to this gaming franchise. Horizon II is actually the third after 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. You’re fighting amazing robotic foes in ways that will remind you of some of the most impressive blockbuster films, and “calls back” to earlier games in the series.

The map you play on is massive, side-quests are abundant, and real exploration defines the experience. The lore in this franchise is amazing, too. You can truly see the work programmers put into this game. There’s a reason it’s presently in the top ten bestselling games list of 2022.
