Problem : Unable to RDP to a Domain user’s individual session. Error: “The two computers couldn’t connect in the amount of time allotted.”

Hello,

I’ve been having issues connecting to my own Vista PC which is a member of a Windows 2008 Domain (running in 2003 native mode).  This issue occurs only to my account and only on one PC.  I  have roaming profiles enabled and am using a fair bit of folder redirection to limit the size of my profile.  When logging in remotely via RDP where the PC does not already have my account actively running, the RDP session connects and my profile loads normailly.  But should I disconnect from that session, or if i login locally, and later attempt to reconnect via RDP I receive the following error:

Remote Desktop Discconected
This computer can’t connect to the remote compter.
Tthe two computers couldn’t connect in the amount of time allotted. Try conecting again.  If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.

My workstation admin and my Enterprise admin accounts do not have this issue.  I’m also able to login to other workstations and my server (my account has backup operator rights) repeatedly via RDP without issue.  I’ve tried giving my domain account local workation admin rights and receive same results. My work around thus far has been to login using an Admin account and rebooting the PC to force my other account down.    I cannot connect to the session from an admin login via task manager either, as I receive “Unhandled error occured while connecting.  #5 Access is denied.

Clearly, permissions is at the heart of the problem, but other that checking rights on my profile itself, I don’t know where to look.  I do not believe this to be a firewall misconfiguration issue, as again, other accounts can login, repeatedly and my account does connect initially, fine.

My details:

affected Workstation – Vista SP1
Server – 2008 Server DataCenter SP1 2003 native mode)

Solution : Unable to RDP to a Domain user’s individual session. Error: “The two computers couldn’t connect in the amount of time allotted.”

I’m going to request this question be deleted since it’s garner no attention and no replies.  I determined my roaming profile was corrupt, and in fact ceased to be updating on logout to the profile on the DC.  After taking ownership of, and resetting security on the entire folder I got the profile to resume roaming, and coincidentally, resolve this “The two computers couldn’t connect in the amount of time allotted” issue
