How To Reset Unity & Unity Launcher To Default Settings In Ubuntu Linux

Over a period of time Ubuntu Unity settings can get a bit messed up. Thiscan  happen due to frequent changes to Unity Launcher icons and CompizConfig settings. The best way to resolve such issues is to reset Unity.

In this post I will tell you how to reset Unity back to its default settings, including the resetting of the Unity Launcher and associated icons.

To reset Unity in CompizConfig Settings manager, open a Terminal window or press ALT + F2, and enter the following command.

unity --reset

Unity-reset

Now, to reset Unity Launcher icons, use the following command.

unity --reset-icons

This will restore Unity back to its default settings including the Unity Launcher and associated icons. With the help of these two simple commands, you can easily restore Unity to default settings. This procedure can quite be helpful in case of e.g. the installation of a faulty plugin or to fix your messed up CompizConfig Settings.
