How To Flash MIUI ROM On Kindle Fire

Over the years, MIUI has become the most sought after, “aftermarket” firmware for Android based devices. After receiving a Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, Amazon’s Kindle Fire has finally got an MIUI ROM. The fiery MIUI 1.12.29 ROM is based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, has come straight from none other than the XDA-Developers  forum member “leech2082”. See the below guide to find out how to install this stylish MIUI ROM on your Kindle Fire device.

Now let’s get started with getting this ROM up and running on your Kindle Fire device. But before we proceed further, take some time to check out the below disclaimer. This is necessary as all hacks are performed solely at the user’s risk.

Requirements:

  • As you might expect, the first requirement for the MIUI ROM, is a rooted Kindle Fire device, which has TWRP 2.0 recovery installed on it. You can do this by seeing my guide: Kindle Fire Single Click Root, Recovery & Market Installation, (the guide also includes instructions for installing TWRP recovery).

Instructions:

Step 1: Download the MIUI ROM from the download link given above and copy it to the root of your SD card.
Step 2: Now, power off your Kindle Fire device and boot into recovery.

Step 3: Power it on and when the yellow triangle appears on your screen, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds, (until TWRP 2.0 recovery is loaded).
Step 4:From the Backup section with in recovery, create a backup of the current system.
Step 5: Head back to the Home Screen and hit Install button.
Step 6: The ROM should now be visible on the right panel of the recovery window, tap it and select Flash to initiate the installation process.
Step 7: After the installation process is complete, just reboot your Kindle Fire device and you are good to go.

It is worth mentioning here that currently the known bug for this ROM, it’s inability to play videos, which will hopefully be sorted out soon. It will be interesting to see what the next development effort brings for Kindle Fire devices, perhaps more custom launchers or applications for Kindle Fire?
