Problem : 5.4.7 Delivery expired (message too old) [Default] [ Errno 54] Connection reset by peer

We are currently running Windows 2000 with Exchange 2000.  One of our customers is getting intermittent problems when sending us mail.  The exact error message is that the sender is getting back is

The following message to  was undeliverable.  The reason for the problem: 5.4.7 – delivery expired (message too old) [Default] ‘[Errno 54] Connection reset by peer.

I have check the rbl list and we are not black listed and neither are they.  I have checked the DNSstuff.com and everything checks out ok.  I have reviewed the Event logs and nothing obvious I can see appears there.

If anyone has any help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Solution: 5.4.7 Delivery expired (message too old) [Default]  [ Errno 54] Connection reset by peer

If this is sending email to your server, then the presence of your server on blacklists will not matter. Furthermore if you are not using blacklists either then it becomes a moot point anyway.

Unfortunately as the recipient your options are limited. You cannot do many diagnostics as you don’t even know if the message is getting to your server. Do you know what path the message takes? Does it go through an ISPs server, some other server?
