Create VLC, WMP, iTunes Playlists via Drag & Drop With sPlaylistMaker

sPlaylistMaker is a portable application for making instant playlists for playing them with popular media players. It allows creating M3U and M3U8 playlists, which can be played with most commonly used media players, including  iTunes, VLC, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer  and other media player applications.

Media Players

sPlaylistMaker  has a user friendly interface and makes it easy to create playlists according to specific formats, which saves users the hassle of creating separate playlists for each installed media player. This is because the same playlist (e.g. M3U playlist) can be played on multiple media players which support the selected format.

When creating playlists, either select a playlist format from the given drop down menu or leave the playlist selection to “Automatic”. The latter may be useful for allowing the application to determine the best match for your media file.

Formats

  • The “M3U, write ASCII” option creates playlists with M3U file extension. This mode writes files in the system’s default code page
  • Whereas,  “M3U8, write UTF-8” mode always uses the M3U8 extension and writes files in UTF-8 format.
  • If you select “M3U, write UTF-8” mode, it will always use the M3U extension and write files in UTF-8 format.
  • The  “Automatic” mode, as explained earlier, determines which extension and file encoding type is most suitable for the selected media files.

After selecting a playlist creation mode,  drag and drop media file(s) or folder(s) onto sPlaylstMaker interface.

Playlist created

This will create a M3U or M3U8 file within the same folder as the source folder. For example, if you dragged files from the desktop then the playlist file will be created and placed on the desktop. Likewise, if you dragged a folder onto sPlaylistmaker, then it will create the playlist file in the same folder as the media files.

Playlists

Since this sPlaylistMaker generates playlists based on folder structure, it can be quite handy for users who like sorting their media files into different folders, rather than by artist, album, etc. sPlaylistMaker works on the following Windows operating systems:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
