How To View & Disable Windows 7 Recent Activity Log Using Recent Places

Recent Places in Windows operating systems log your recent activity and display a list of recently accessed files and folders. This can help you identify and open recent files and folders which may otherwise be located inside many sub folders. You can use Recent Places to launch these files and folders without having to create a lot of shortcuts. But there is also a negative aspect of recent Places. It can end up giving your activity log to other people who use the same computer and result in compromising your privacy. In this post I will tell you how to access and disable recent files and folders in Windows 7 using recent places and how to disable recent places log.

Access Recent Places

Recent Places can be easily accessed from Windows Explorer from the left-hand side menu (as shown below).

You can also access Recent Places by typing Recent Places from the Windows 7 start menu.

Disable Recent Places

To disable recent places log, right click on the Start menu and select Properties.

After that, go to Start Menu tab and uncheck the options highlighted in below image. These include:

“ Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu”.

“Store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and the Taskbar”.
