A new feature of Windows Home Server 2011 is that users can create a backup of the connected computers. This enables saving the backup of a system to the Home Server. Moreover, if the connector software is removed from a PC, users are given the option to backup data from that computer to the Home Server. In this post I will tell you how to configure Backup for computers connected to Windows Home Server 2011.

To configure backup options, go to the Dashboard –> Computers and Backup. Select a computer name and click “Start a backup for the computer”. This will start the backup process. To backup specific parts of the selected computer, click on “Customize backup for this computer”.

Click “Add or remove backup items” in order to select the content that you wish to backup from the selected system.

After that, select items to backup from the selected system.

To confirm the selected backup items, click Save Changes. This will save your settings and schedule backup for the computer according to your selected criteria.

You can change the backup schedule and configure related options by clicking on “Additional client computer backup tasks” (from the Dashboard). The Settings tab allows selecting the backup schedule timing, backup retention duration (days, weeks, months) and for resetting back to default options.

The Tools tab can be used to repair damaged backups, you can also create a backup key to restore backups on client systems.
