Windows 8 is finally out and though there might be some further modifications in the RTM release and later some service pack enhancements, Windows 8 Consumer Preview seems pretty much like the final product. To walk you through the installation process and the various start up settings, we have created a video for our WML Cloud readers. Below are step by step instructions, followed by a video tutorial that shows the installation process for Windows 8.
Step 1: Check if your PC meets the Windows 8 System Requirements
Step 2: Download Windows 8
Step 3: Create a bootable CD/DVD or USB for Windows 8 installation. See the below posts for instructions:
- How To Install Windows 8 & Windows Server 8 From USB
- Install Windows 8 Without DVD or USB Media
- Step4: Boot your system from the created CD/DVD or USB.
- Step 5: Select your Language, Time and Currency Format and Keyboard or leave the options to default and click Next to continue.
Step 6: In the next step, click Install Now and enter the product key. Once done, accept the “Terms and Conditions”.
Step 7: Select Custom install to select a partition for installation or choose Upgrade to upgrade from your existing Windows operating system on the same partition. Custom install can be used for a number of reasons, including a wipe and load installation or dual boot.
Step 7: Select a partition with at least 20 GB of hard disk space (minimum 16GB for Windows 8 32 bit and 20 GB for Windows 8 64-bit). You can also create partitions if you like. The process for creating system partitions is the same in Windows 8, as it was in Windows 7.
Step 8: This will begin the installation process on the selected partition.
Step 9: Your system will restart several times during the installation process and once the installation is complete, you will be presented with first run settings. You can either go for express settings or Custom Settings.
Step 10: Once you have configured the first run settings you will be able to login to your Windows 8 operating system. If you get confused regarding accessing the classic desktop, then click the Desktop tile on the bottom left corner of the Metro screen.
