Problem : The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored.

On system boot, the following error appears on the desktop: “The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored.” This system is a file server.

I have used CCleaner to clean up the registry and have used the Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleaner utility. I have also dumped and recreated the Paging file with no joy. I have not downloaded a tool to compress my registry and am trying to avoid that. Also, I’ve looked at the other articles on EE pertaining to this error and found nothing to help me.

This error is confusing as it is my understanding that Microsoft did away with the Registry Size Limit in Server 2003. There is nothing in the event viewer that is of any help.

Any help is appreciated.

Solution : The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored.

There server did no thave the /3GB switch, but I added it. That didn’t help. I did notice that I was logged in with was rather large and I started getting a login error that it would log in with a default profile as system resources were unavailable. I logged in with the local admin account, deleted the suspect profile, rebooted and had no error. Logged in with domain account, with no issues, and restarted the server again to make sure that the error message didn’t return.

Problem appears to have been a corrupt profile.
