There are many famous Twitter clients for desktop operating systems and smartphones. The most notable among these include TweetDeck, Pidgin and Seesmic.
Echofon is another feature rich, cross-platform Twitter client for Windows, Mac OS X and iOS devices, which can be used as a viable alternative to the aforementioned applications. The best feature of Echofon is its ability to synchronize Twitter updates between desktop and smartphones. For example, if you check Twitter using an iPhone device and later access Twitter via Echofon, from say a Windows laptop, then you will be provided with a list of unread items so that you can start of from where you last left. Furthermore, Echofon comes with support for adding multiple Twitter accounts so that you can check updates from numerous accounts within one application.
The first time you sign into Echofon, you are asked to authorize the Twitter app.
Once done, enter the verification code provided by the Echofon.
After entering the Echofon authorization code, you can start using the application from any supported device. The main interface displays all basic Twitter options from the top menu, including viewing your Twitter timeline, mentions, messages and the option to search Twitter.
You can open a twitter profile in a new window by clicking a tweet o profile name. Clicking on the cog icon displays options to reply/send message, mute sounds, block a use and to report a tweet as spam. The bottom of this window displays options to access the users tweets, list of followers and people following him.
You can access other features such as adding multiple user accounts, uploading images, selecting a geographical location, jumping to marked or unread messages, changing the font size, enabling or disabling iPhone notifications and selecting a time interval for checking for new tweets, from the Echofon drop down menu.
The navigation options in the iPad and iPhone versions of Echofone are almost identical to desktop versions and provide almost similar options. The user interface difference is perhaps limited to the display of options on the sidebar instead of the top menu.
While most options in iOS version of this app are similar to desktop versions, a few exceptions include the requirement of manually enabling some options. These include synchronization of twitter updates (with desktopcomputers), push notifications, etc.
