SMB 1,x MiniRedirector service failed to start, SMB 1.x MiniRedirector is not a valid WIn32 Application

Question : SMB 1,x MiniRedirector service failed to start, SMB 1.x MiniRedirector is not a valid WIn32 Application

How do I correct a problem with a service not starting with Vista.
My Vista machine can no longer see or access other Vista or XP machines in our local network.  I get the following three errors in the system log.

The Computer Browser service depends on the Workstation service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.  Event ID 7000

The SMB 1.x MiniRedirector service failed to start due to the following error:
SMB 1.x MiniRedirector is not a valid Win32 application.  Event ID 7001

The Workstation service depends on the SMB 1.x MiniRedirector service which failed to start because of the following error:
Workstation is not a valid Win32 application.  Event ID 7001

These errors started when I was traveling and running a laptop on an airplane.  It does not coincide with the installation of any updates or new installations.  I did run chkdsk and found/fixed errors though,

Thanks in advance

Solution: SMB 1,x MiniRedirector service failed to start, SMB 1.x MiniRedirector is not a valid WIn32 Application

Try running the System Restore Point to reset the O/S and drivers back to a previous point (prior to the problems). All your data will be left intact and this should resolve your problem.

I know that you mention that no drivers or updates have been implemented but I have had similar problems and this has always resolved them.
