Dredge Guide – All 4 Recording Rarities exotic fish locations

Recording Rarities exotic fish

The oarfish, gulper eel, goliath tigerfish, and coelacanth are the four Recording Rarities exotic fish you need to catch in Dredge. They are hidden all over the world, and though finding them is a formidable challenge, the payoff is substantial.

Dredge Guide – All 4 Recording Rarities exotic fish locations

Before we begin, keep in mind that you’ll need unlocked Dredge Abyssal and Hadal fishing options to catch the majority of these fish, and many of them will also require Dredge explosives, so make sure you have everything ready to go. It’s also worth noting that these fish can be caught at any time of day.

Recording Rarities exotic fish locations

  1. Oarfish (Gale Cliffs)
  2. Gulper Eel (Stellar Basin)
  3. Goliath Tigerfish (Twisted Strand)
  4. Coelacanth (Devil’s Spine)

Oarfish

  • Location: Gale Cliffs, coordinates P-3
  • Requires: Abyssal Rod

Head to the open area in the southeast corner where you found the Family Crest. It’s right in the middle of the one-eyed fish’s hunting territory, at coordinates P-3, and there’s a waterfall there that you can sail right through without getting hurt. On the other side, there is a cave with a hidden Oarfish in the middle of it.

Gulper eel

  • Location: Stellar Basin, coordinates F-4
  • Requires: Hadal Rod

The Gulper Eel is in Stellar Basin. It lives in the trench northeast of the central pit, where the tentacled horror kills anyone who gets too close. But it’s not in the danger zone, so you shouldn’t have to worry. If you need help finding the hotspot where it’s waiting, go to the abandoned Research Outpost inside the basin and look West while scanning the area with your telescope. You’re looking for a shape with a curved tail and a big shape in front that could be open jaws or a big claw (it’s open jaws).

Tigerfish

  • Location: Twisted Strand, coordinates F-14
  • Requires: Mangrove Rod, Explosives

You’ll find this tigerfish in Twisted Strand’s maze, but you need to head to the wide dead end at F-14 on your map. This dead end is blocked by a tree, so be sure to bring explosives with you. You can get to the Goliath Tigerfish in this aquatic cul-de-sac once you blow it up.

Coelacanth

  • Location: Devil’s Spine, coordinates Q-12
  • Requires: Abyssal Rod, Explosives

The primordial Coelacanth lives on Devil’s Strand’s easternmost island. When approaching from the east, on the border of map coordinates Q-12 and Q-13, you’ll notice a watery strait cutting through the island, which is blocked on both sides by boulders. To enter, blow up the rocks on either side, and the Coelacanth’s fishing spot is right in the middle of that small strait.

Rewards

The rewards of collecting Recording Rarities will surprise you, for better and for worse. The Traveling Merchant isn’t interested in getting your catch; she’s just curious to know how you did. This means that even if you sell them, she will still give you the reward if you simply tell her you caught them, which is two research parts per exotic fish caught. Not only that, but each exotic fish is worth $250 when sold, and even more if you have book sales bonuses.

Unfortunately, there is no overall quest completion reward. When you give the final fish, whichever one it is, the Merchant simply hands over the last two research parts, gives you a thumbs up, and waves you on, the pursuit now complete. Awww.

So, that’s all 4 Recording Rarities exotic fish locations in Dredge.
