Sharing Files Using Mac
To install this app on an iOS device or Mac computer, go to the link given at the end of this post, install and run the MovieShare client on your device. When sharing content, the Mac version of this app will show you devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, which are running the MovieShare client. All you have to do is to drag and drop a video to a device and it will begin transferring to it. It is worth mentioning here that you can send only a single file at a time. Moreover, the free version of MovieShare is limited to sharing only MP4 and M4A files.
Sharing Files Using iOS Devices
Just like the Mac version, if you wish to share a file using an iOS device, then the other device will also require the MovieShare app to be installed on it. Unfortunately, the iOS client does not prompt for permission to accept files, which can be a bit of a security risk. It will be better if the developer’s changed this mode of transfer to add a prompt instead of letting the file automatically begin transferring from other devices.
After the file transfer is complete, just tap on the file to display the Action, Play and Delete buttons. In case you are wondering about the functionality of the Action button, it let’s you share the selected file with other devices and can also be used to or save the file to your camera roll.
Overall, the app works perfectly, (despite the limitations on the free version) and can be considered as an easier and lightweight alternative to iTunes for syncing apps. MovieShare has been optimized for iPhone 5 and requires devices running iOS 5.1 or later. List of all supported devices for MovieShare include the following:
