How To Play Audio From HDMI And Sound Card Speakers At The Same Time

It can be quite annoying to switch between your Windows sound card and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) device for receiving audio output. In Windows, one can normally only select a single device such as the sound card or the HDMI device for receiving audio output.

In this post I will provide you with a simple tip which will allow you to receive audio output from your Windows sound card and an HDMI device simultaneously.

Go to the Control Panel and click Sound or right-click on your sound card icon from system tray and select Playback Devices.

Playback Devices

From the Playback tab, select speakers and set them as the default audio device by clicking on Set Default button.

Set Default

Now go to the Recording tab and select Show Disabled Devices from right-click menu. This will display another recording device which may be named as “Mono Mix”,  “Stereo Mix”, etc. Right-click on the new device and click Enable. Then set the new device as the default device from Set Default button.

Show Disabled Devices

Double click on the new device or right click on it and select Properties. Go to the Listen tab, enable  Listen to this device option and select your HDMI device from the drop down menu. Click Apply, OK for the changes to take effect.

Listen

That’s all you need to do for receiving simultaneous audio output from your sound cars speakers and HDMI device.
