Problem : HP Universal Print Driver – “The selected printer is not a supported HP device”
I’ve added a few Laserjet 4350 printers with the HP Universal PCL6 driver on a Windows 2003 Server Standard. For one of our Laserjet 4350 printers, when I try to add the tcp/ip port, it doesn’t automatically detect the port as a HP JetDirect. I set it manually (also tried Generic Network Card) and the printer installs fine. But when I try to print to the printer, an error of “The selected printer is not a supported HP device” is displayed.
Solution : HP Universal Print Driver – “The selected printer is not a supported HP device”
A tech on-site did a factory reset of the printer – this did not resolve the issue.
I checked the config of the printer against another 4350 that was working fine with the HP Universal Print Driver and I found that SNMP and DLC/LLC were disabled. I enabled both of these and the port was then detected as a HP JetDirect!
