Destiny 2 Season 23: What’s in Store?

Weapons & Seasonal Armor

Season of the Wish will introduce new seasonal weapons and armor for Guardians to obtain through various in-game activities. Among the anticipated weapons is the rumored “SunShot” exotic Sniper rifle, described as giving Hunters the feeling of casting their Golden Gun. Community members speculate that it could be a high-caliber, slow-firing Sniper Rifle similar to the Whisper of the Worm exotic.

Additionally, a returning exotic weapon from Destiny 1, the Khvostov 7G-0X Auto-Rifle, is expected to make a comeback between Season of the Witch and The Final Shape. It’s one of the most requested weapons to be reintroduced in Destiny 2.

The seasonal armor in Season of the Wish is expected to have a design reminiscent of the Great Hunt armor set from The Last Wish Raid, with Awoken-inspired aesthetics and a refreshed color palette. The teaser image hints at new weapons, including a primary kinetic bow, an improved Age-Old Bone High-Impact Assault Rifle, and a Trace Rifle.

Weapon Buffs & Nerfs

The Destiny 2 developers have already discussed several gameplay changes coming with Season of the Wish. These include the highly requested Vault System in the Orbit lobby, a nerf to the Osteo Striga exotic SMG, and the introduction of a Catalyst for the Thorn exotic Hand Cannon.

The Vex Mythoclast is receiving a significant damage buff against various enemy types, including rank-and-file opponents, bosses, and vehicles, with a 200% increase against Champions.

The exotic pulse rifle Revision Zero is also getting a 100% increase in damage against Champions as part of Bungie’s effort to enhance the PvE meta.

The upcoming season will introduce a new PvP mode for Iron Banner called Tribute, and Foundry Weapon focus, allowing players to craft weapons from the Hakke, Omolon, Veist, and Suros brands. These changes aim to add variety and excitement to the crafting system.

Expected Locations

Season of the Wish is expected to take place in the Dreaming City, a location that was once filled with activities during the Forsaken expansion launch back in 2018. There has been much speculation about returning to the city of the Awoken and facing Riven once again. Bungie has teased the possibility of a new expansion set in the Dreaming City before “The Final Shape” in June 2024.

Gunsmith Banshee-44 Changes

Banshee-44, the Tower’s Gunsmith, is also getting an update in Season 23. Players will have the opportunity to focus on specific foundry weapons, providing a dedicated way to obtain desired perk rolls.

Initially, Banshee will offer weapons from Suros, Hakke, Veist, and Omolon from Seasons 16-19, essentially staying at least four seasons behind. Season 24 will then include weapons from Season 20. These weapons will be removed from Legendary Engrams in the world loot pool and can only be acquired directly from Banshee.

Weapons Available for Focusing

During Season 23, players can focus on weapons from the following foundries:

  • Suros: Cantata-57, Syncopation-53, Fugue-55, Staccato-46, Pizzicato-22, Fioritura-59
  • Hakke: Palmyra-B, Perses-D, Ragnhild-D, Enyo-D, Boudica-C, Lodbrok-C
  • Veist: Krait, Redback-5si, Funnelweb, Lunulata-4b, Taipan-4fr, Jararaca-3sr
  • Omolon: Snorri FR5, Typhon GL5, Ogma PR6, Gallu RR3, Ammit AR2, Aurvandil FR6

Note: Banshee will offer two foundries at a time, rotating daily.

To focus these weapons, players will need three Gunsmith Engrams (which can be obtained from vendor rank ups and completing lost sectors) and at least 5,000 Glimmer.

Dungeons

Additionally, a new Dungeon is set to be added to the game, though Bungie’s tradition of keeping these details under wraps until the last moment remains unchanged. The secrecy surrounding their Dungeon plans only adds to the suspense and excitement in the Destiny 2 community.

Legendary Shards Removal

Bungie plans to remove Legendary Shards from the game in Season 23. While this may seem like a significant change, it’s part of an effort to make the game more accessible for both new and returning players. The costs for Glimmer, Exotic Ciphers, and Spoils of Conquest will remain unchanged.

No Exchange for Legendary Shards

Players won’t be able to exchange their accumulated Legendary Shards for a new currency, so stockpiling them won’t yield any benefits. Instead, players can anticipate increased drop rates for other items like Glimmer, making in-game resources more readily available.

That wraps up everything we know so far about Destiny 2 Season of the Wish. Prepare for new challenges, weapons, and adventures as you embark on your journey through this intriguing season. Stay tuned for more updates and enjoy your time in the world of Destiny 2.
