If you remember the HTC One series that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, HTC showed off the HTC One V smartphone, along with HTC One S and HTC One X. It has been designed to be a mid-range Android smartphone, with some nifty features to please customers belonging to the targeted market segment. It has a 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen, which is protected by a scratch resistant glass. It comes with a 5 MP auto-focus camera, with smart LED flash and BSI sensor. It also provides video recording in HD at 720p. The processor isn’t bad for a mid ranged smartphone and offers 1 GHZ of juice, with 512 MB RAM. It offers 4GB of total storage and expansion via microSD.
The HTC One V certainly feels like a smartphone that delivers a higher than average quality. When analyzing the design aspects one might be a little confused at the slightly raised glass which adds an odd design to the device. With a single-core 1 GHz processor and 512MB of RAM running Google’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and Sense 4.0, the performance may become an issue. The reason can be attributed to the fact that unlike the HTC One X, HTC One V does not come with Tegra 3′s ninja core.
In practice, HTC One V seemed to be working fine with Sense 4.0 during the demo, however, demoed phones are not packed with numerous apps that end users install on their smartphones. This at the end of the day is the difference between what we see at a convention Demo and what we get when we have the device in our hands.
From the style aspect, HTC One V certainly packs a punch to its competitors with a Backside-Illuminated (BSI) sensor and f2.0 lens. During Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, HTC showed off One V only with a grey coloured model, and some feared that this grey version would be the only available colour at the release of the device. However, it appears that this is no longer the case and the final release of One V is expected with three different colors, including black and purple, along with the classic grey.

It will be interesting to see how HTC One V fares in the midst of competition from Samsung, Sony and LG in the realm of mid-ranged devices released this year. However, judging from what we have seen so far, HTC One V might not be as viable a competitor in the wake of cheaper smartphones being released by Samsung in particular.
