Windows Server 2012 System Requirements And Pre-Installation Information

Windows Server 8 is the name of the next generation Windows Server. It is the server version of Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 operating system and  is the successor to Windows Server 2008. It comes with a number of improvements, including features that provide a more cloud based options, virtualization, a new interface and other enhancements. Before you can install and start using Windows Server 2012, it is worth checking out its system requirements and pre-installation instructions.

Windows Server 8, has the following hardware requirements that need to be met before you can successfully install it on your designated computer hardware. Windows Server 2012 System Requirements

  • Processor: Minimum: 1.4 GHz 64bit processor
  • Memory: Minimum: 512 MB of RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: Minimum: 32 GB

Note: 32 GB has been described as the bare minimum hard disk space required for Windows Server 8. It should be kept in mind that although this is sufficient for a successful installation of Windows server 8, systems with more than 16 GB of RAM will require additional disk space for managing paging, hibernation, and dump file related tasks. You might also soon run out of disk space if you resort to merely 32 GB of disk space, as the installation of additional applications and data will further increase the disk space requirement.

  • Drive: DVD-ROM drive
  • Display and Peripherals:  You will need Super VGA 800 x 600 or a higher resolution monitor, a Keyboard, Microsoft Mouse or the use of some other compatible pointing device.

Note: The actual requirements may vary based on the configuration of your system and the applications, Windows Server 8 based features, Windows Updates and other data that you install or save on your computer. The Processor performance is not only dependent on the clock frequency of the processor, but also the number of cores and size of your processor’s cache. The given hard disk space requirement for the system partition are only an approximation. You may require extra hard drive space if you are installing over a network.
