I have covered a number of Windows transformation packs to give Windows 7 and older Windows versions a unique look. While such transformation packs can be easily installed, it can be quite confusing to remove them. For this reason I often recommend users to create a system backup before their installation. In this post I will tell you how to uninstall a Windows transformation packs/skin pack, without restoring your old data from a system image. Using this method you can uninstall a number of transformation packs including the following:
- Android Jelly Bean Skin Pack
- Mac OS X Mountain Lion Skin Pack (Windows 7 and Windows 8)
- Mac OS X Lion Skin Pack
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard Skin Pack
- Windows Phone 7 Mango Skin Pack
- Windows 8 Skin Pack
- Android Skin Pack
- iOS Skin Pack
- Zune Skin Pack
- Gnome Skin Pack
- Halloween Skin Pack
- Xbox 360 Skin Pack
- New Year Skin Pack
- Christmas Skin Pack
- Ubuntu 11.10 Skin Pack
In order to remove a transformation pack, it is required to remove all its components. To get started, open Control Panel and go to Add or Remove Programs. Alternatively, open Run dialog box, type appwiz.cpl and click Ok.
Select each component of the Skin Pack in precise order to remove the transformation pack. Make sure that you always start with the main component such as “Android Skin Pack”. Uninstalling other items first may result in problems regarding the removal of the transformation pack. In other words, remove the item labeled as the skin pack name first, followed by other items (if any).
Also make sure that all items are checked for un-installation during each prompt. For example, the below screenshot shows that all Files, Extras and Backup Files have been selected for removal.
Before uninstallation, you may also be asked to remove other backup files of the skin pack. Click YES to avoid leaving any traces of the transformation pack.
Once uninstallation is complete, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
The above mentioned process should help you easily remove a Windows transformation/skin pack without the hassle of resorting to a complete wipe and load installation or restoring files and folders from a system backup image.
